EASTLAKE (KGTV) -- A South Bay indoor playground took the fun outside to bring joy to kids and make a little income, as it waits for word on when it can reopen.
Play City in Eastlake opened about 3 and a half years ago. Business was booming, according to marketing director Alita Fernandez. They were looking forward to this year.
“We were going to crush it with events and all the things we do at Play City and then came March 15th. [It] all came to a halt,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez said they started doing “Play City on the Go” around Easter time. They took sign ups to drive by customers’ homes in characters. Most recently, they dressed up as Toy Story characters to meet the kids and dance with them using social distance.
“It’s overwhelming to see how our fans are behind us all the way,” Fernandez said.
They asked for donations, which was matched with a gift card to Play City. It could be used once the business reopens.
“We miss them and we miss the kids,” Fernandez said. “It’s love all around and it's heartwarming to see we’re able to bring a little bit of joy.”
Fernandez said they are taking a break before the figure out the next “Play City on the Go.” In the meantime, they are waiting for word from state and local officials on when they can reopen safely.
“I’ve always been a very positive person so I’m just trying to figure out how we are going to make this work,” Fernandez said.
