San Diego's Weather Forecast for August 23, 2022: Monsoon storms return

Posted
and last updated

The heat peaks today ahead of a slight cooling trend into the weekend.

Meanwhile, the eastern portion of our county will have an influx of moisture moving in, ramping up the chances for thunderstorms mainly in our mountains.

The threat for hail and dry lightning is minimal, while the biggest risks will be gusty winds and flash flooding. Models are showing peak storm activity will partner with the peak of the heat, around 3P through sunset hours. Activity will diminish overnight before picking up again Thursday afternoon.

Patchy fog increasing this evening resulting in mostly cloudy skies Wednesday morning. Clouds should mix out by 11A followed by quick warming, especially inland. Daytime highs will trend near normal but with the increasing surge of moisture, it'll feel muggy once again.

By the weekend, onshore flow will filter in cooler and drier air. This will increase morning cloud coverage along our beaches and provide pleasant conditions on Saturday and Sunday.

Our next chance for storm activity is set to arrive in the middle of next week.

Wednesday's Highs:
Coast: 73-80°
Inland: 84-94°
Mountains: 84-97°
Deserts: 105-110°
