SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Padres announced Wednesday they have re-signed infielder/outfielder Jurickson Profar to a three-year deal worth up to $21 million.
The $21 million deal also includes opt outs after each of the first two seasons.
The 2020 season was Profar's first with the Padres, who acquired him last winter in a deal with the Oakland Athletics. Profar's average of .278 in 2020 was a career-high, while he also added seven home runs and 25 RBIs in 57 total games played.
The Willemstad, Curacao native, has made 208 career appearances at second base, 104 at shortstop, 89 at third base, 45 at first base, 74 in left field, and 36 as a designated hitter.
The 27-year was once the top prospect in the country and made his major league debut with the Texas Rangers, where he hit a home run at his first career at-bat. Profar also played for the Netherlands in the 2013 and 2017 World Baseball Classic and was selected to back-to-back Futures Games for the World Team in 2011-12.
