SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State Aztecs junior guard Malachi Flynn and head coach Brian Dutcher each took home some postseason hardware.
Flynn was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and its Newcomer of the Year, while Dutcher -- who led SDSU to a 28-1 regular season record (17-1 in conference play) -- was selected as the MWC Coach of the Year in a unanimous vote.
The voting for the postseason honors was conducted by media covering the 11 Mountain West teams.
Dutcher, who has been with the SDSU men’s basketball program since 1999, garnered all 11 media votes to receive the head coaching award.
The Aztecs remained at No. 5 in The Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Monday. The team beat Nevada over the weekend to conclude the regular season.
Flynn, who transferred from Washington State, averaged nearly 18 points a game in his first full season as an Aztec. The 6-1 guard finished ahead of Nevada’s Jalen Harris in voting for both awards.
Besides the two individual awards, Flynn was named to the media voters’ All-Mountain West First Team.
Aztecs Matt Mitchell and Yanni Wetzel made the All-Mountain West Second Team and Third Team, respectively.
