San Diego Sockers open MASL season with win at El Paso

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Sockers opened the 2017-18 Major Arena Soccer League season Thursday with a 9-5 road win over the El Paso Coyotes.

Forward Kraig Chiles paced the Sockers with two goals and three assists, while goalkeeper Boris Pardo had 13 saves.

The Sockers, who have earned 14 indoor soccer league titles since 1981, will play their home opener -- also Cancer Awareness Night -- Nov. 5 at the Valley View Casino Center.

San Diego plays the Syracuse Silver Knights at 5:05 p.m., and the team will give out a free schedule magnet to the first 3,000 fans.

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. and parking at the arena is free.
