(KGTV) -- Officials with the Pacific 12 conference announced Thursday they have canceled the men’s basketball tournament in Las Vegas, as well as other in-season conference sports and events, over coronavirus concerns.
In a statement, Pac-12 officials said: “The Pac-12 Conference has made the decision to cancel the remainder of the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Tournament and all Pac-12 sport competitions and Pac-12 Championship events, effective immediately, until further notice. This decision has been made in consultation with our member universities in an effort to limit the spread of the virus and in the interest of the health and safety of our student-athletes, campus personnel, working and event personnel, and all those who attend Pac-12 events.”
The Pac-12 joins the Big West, SEC, Big Ten, ACC, AAC, A-10, Conference USA, MAC, Southland, and WAC as leagues who have canceled their men’s basketball tournaments amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Big 12 has not made an official decision; the Big East continued tournament play in New York on Thursday.
Earlier this week, the Ivy League canceled its men’s and women’s basketball conference tournaments.
NCAA officials said the men’s and women’s tournaments would be played with limited attendance.
