The Padres announced Tuesday that a weeklong basketball festival will be held at Petco Park this fall leading up to the Dec. 5 outdoor contest between San Diego State and the University of San Diego.
The festival is named for Hall of Famer Bill Walton, a San Diegan.
The Bill Walton Basketball Festival will begin Nov. 30 and include youth clinics, charity games, community league contests and high school competition. The games will take place on the floor that will be used by the Aztecs and Toreros, which will run along the third base line of the baseball field.
"We are proud to be joining forces with basketball legend and San Diego icon Bill Walton for the Bill Walton Basketball Festival at Petco Park," said Padres President and CEO Mike Dee.
"Even before plans for the college basketball game were finalized, we envisioned the court setup being utilized for more than just one day," he said. "This is going to be a week full of unique opportunities for groups throughout our community."
Walton said he was "privileged, honored and humbled" to be involved with the festival.
General ticket sales to the public for the SDSU-USD game begin Wednesday. The full schedule of festival events will be released at a later time.
