SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The new professional football team set to hit the field in San Diego next year now has a Naval-inspired name and logo.
The eight-team Alliance of American Football (AAF) begins play on Feb. 9, 2019, and on Tuesday, the team names and logos were officially unveiled.
The teams are:
- San Diego Fleet
- San Antonio Commanders
- Salt Lake Stallions
- Arizona Hotshots
- Atlanta Legends
- Memphis Express
- Birmingham Iron
- Orlando Apollos
The Fleet, inspired by San Diego’s Navy presence, will play their home games at SDCCU Stadium -- the former home of the NFL Chargers. The team will be led by former NFL head coach Mike Martz.
The team colors are a “battleship” gray and a yellow that symbolizes San Diego’s sunshine.
Charlie Ebersol, the co-founder of the AAF, said, “San Diego is a football city. It’s deeply ingrained in the culture of the city.”
