Congratulations are in order for actress Sarah Hyland and reality TV star Wells Adams. After two years of dating, the two announced their engagement on Instagram this week.
Hyland, 28, is best known for her role as Haley Dunphy on the ABC TV sitcom “Modern Family,” but you may also recognize her from the Disney Channel original film “Geek Charming” and projects such as “Scary Movie 5” and 2017’s “Dirty Dancing.” Bartender/podcaster Adams, 35, was on the 12th season of “The Bachelorette” and also starred in “Bachelor in Paradise” in its third season. He’ll be returning for the upcoming sixth season.
The announcement came via a series of photos that the “Modern Family” star captioned, “That can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, world series kind of stuff â¨â¤ï¸ @wellsadams.” (Yes, that’s a quote from the Olsen twins film “It Takes Two.”):
The couple became engaged while vacationing in Fiji. Adams reportedly proposed with a multi-carat oval diamond ring that some estimate to be valued in the $100,000-$200,000 range.
On an episode of his podcast, “Your Favorite Things,” he admitted that the most nerve-wracking part of the proposal was making sure he didn’t lose the ring beforehand.
“Guys, for the most part, are not used to having expensive pieces of jewelry around them… So, it freaks us out just in general,” Adams said. “Also, for me, we were traveling across the ocean, so that’s even more stress of like, ‘What happens if someone steals my bag or something?'”
Once the ring was on Hyland’s finger, Adams said he felt so relieved, adding: “Everyone is like, ‘Are you so happy?’ And I was so happy but I’m also so happy I’m not in charge of that very nice ring. There’s too much pressure!”
Here’s another image of the couple from Hyland’s Instagram account. Check out the caption: she’s a touch excited, isn’t she?
It’s fitting that the couple announced their engagement on social media, considering it was how they first met. Hyland and Adams reportedly started flirting with each other on Twitter in 2016 and became a couple the next year.
Hyland has credited Adams with helping her through her health journey; she suffers from kidney dysplasia and endometriosis, and faced hospitalization as they began dating, including a kidney transplant.
“It was a really intimate start to a relationship to have to go through those hurdles at the very, very, very beginning when you’re just even getting to know a person,” she told People. “Also, falling in love with someone before you can really be intimate. I did not believe that that was a thing, but it is.”
Sounds like they had the whole “in sickness and in health” concept taken care of early on!
Here’s his post on the engagement at @wellsadams, complete with a video of the event, captioned, “I’ll be Johnny, you be June. But forever.”
By 2018, the couple had moved in together in Los Angeles, after Nashville native Adams moved across country.
At the time, Hyland spoke to People about the move: ““I think it’s brought us closer,” she said. “I don’t think it’s been long enough to discover pet peeves with each other.”
She added, “I think we’re in the honeymoon phase of living together.”
Apparently, the honeymoon never ended! Congratulations to the happy couple.
