Actor Rob Lowe and his wife, Sheryl, are once again trying to sell the California home they designed from scratch. And as you might imagine, it’ll cost you a pretty penny.
The Lowes first listed their home last summer, with a different agency. The asking price at that time was $47 million. Now, real estate firm The Agency is representing the property, and they’re asking $42.5 million.
What do you get if you can scrape together that much cash?
The home — called Oakview Estate — was inspired by Mount Vernon, the 18th-century Virginia estate of President George Washington. It features six bedrooms and 11 baths and it sits on just over 3 acres near the foothills of the Santa Ynez Mountains in California.
In designing the property, the Lowe family wanted a home with a lot of versatility.
“Building from scratch, I could finally have everything we’ve experienced, loved, wanted to have or do under one roof — a meld of our personalities,” Sheryl told Architectural Digest in 2010, when their home was featured on the magazine’s cover.
The couple ultimately created a space that was welcoming to anyone who happened to pass through its doors.
The grounds and the grand entrance, for one, will have you dying to go inside:
The home has multiple fireplaces, which make it feel all the more cozy:
The kitchen features a large island and circular table, perfect for large groups:
And the outdoor spaces are just as beautiful as the indoor ones:
There are huge porches that are great for entertaining, but which also provide plenty of peace and quiet when you need it:
Last, but not least, the bedrooms offer the perfect place to wind down at the end of a long day:
But don’t turn in for the night without taking a swim in the giant tub, first:
You may be wondering why the family would want to sell a home that seems so perfect. According to Business Insider, they had released a statement explaining that their children have grown up and moved out. It looks like it’s time for another family to call this estate home as the actor and his wife prepare to move into a place that’s better suited to just the two of them.
Here’s to the lucky family that gets to start their story where the Lowe family left off!
