SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Escondido Police Department is investigating a bizarre theft from a restaurant in the process of trying to open its doors.

BAPS! Restaurant which bought the location on the 2600 block of South Escondido Boulevard, near I-15, is looking to open its doors this summer. While the owners are making renovations inside the restaurant, the table tops were left in the patio.

Security video shows a man come into the patio area on April 11. The man appears to have a tool that he used to disassemble two table tops and haul them away. The table tops weigh about 100 pounds.

Co-owner Brad Solley says it’s the fourth break-in. They put up cameras after their third time someone stole tables. Solley thinks its the same man caught in the security video.

“He knew exactly how to disassemble the table; he came with the right tools, it’s like he’s done this multiple times,” Solley said.

“Maybe he stole it to sell it to somebody who has a restaurant. I don’t know for sure,” Solley said. But he wants the community to keep an eye out for them.

Solley says the thief also stole some light fixtures and chairs. He estimates the costs to be $8,000 to $10,000.
