Mosque shooter livestreamed attack on Facebook, posted white nationalist manifesto on Twitter

A man arrested in connection with one of the terrorist attacks at New Zealand mosques on Friday livestreamed the attack on Facebook, according to the New Zealand Herald .

According to the Herald, which viewed the video before it was removed by Facebook, the 28-year-old man livestreamed the attack via a helmet camera as he fired into the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand.

At one point, the shooter returned to his car to get more ammunition before resuming his attack.

The livestream of the terror attack lasted 17 minutes. Forty-one people were killed at the Al Noor mosque on Friday.

Facebook's Australia-New Zealand policy director Mia Garlick has confirmed the video has been removed.

news.au.com also reports that the suspected gunman also tweeted a link to a lengthy manifesto in which he described himself as "just a regular white man" who "decided to take a stand to ensure a future for my people."

ABC News in Australia has identified the gunman as Brenton Tarrant. The New Zealand Herald confirms that Twitter has suspended an account with that name.

Seven other people were killed at a second attack terrorist at the Linwood Mosque in Christchurch on Friday. An additional person connected with the two shootings died at a local hospital, bringing the death toll to 49. More than 200 people were injured.
