SAN DIEGO -- A woman was stabbed when police say she tried to offer Gatorade to a man she saw digging through a shopping cart late Saturday.

The 45-year-old victim was walking on Main Street near Vesta Street just before 8:30 p.m. when she saw the man going through the cart and offered him the drink, police say.

According to police, the man then turned around, kicked the woman in the leg and stabbed her in the hip with his knife. Police arrested the suspect, William Wilson, 59.

He is currently being held on $30,000 bail. Paramedics took the woman to the hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
