SAN DIEGO -- San Diego police are seeking a woman seen in the company of a man as he allegedly killed one man and wounded another in a shooting at an Encanto-area strip mall three months ago.
The unidentified person of interest in the shooting, who was described as a 20 to 30-year-old black woman with a light complexion, was seen with suspect Jared Casey, 25, as the gunfire began in a parking lot outside the businesses in the 6200 block of Imperial Avenue in the early afternoon hours of Oct. 7, according to San Diego police and Crime Stoppers.
San Diego resident Albert Franco, 25, died in a hospital shortly after the attack. A second man, Ahmad Robinson, was wounded but survived. A possible motive for the shooting has yet to be disclosed, but authorities said it took place after the suspect crossed into rival gang territory.
About a week later, while already behind bars on suspicion of domestic violence, Casey was re-arrested on murder and attempted-murder charges in connection with the shooting, authorities said. He has since pleaded not guilty and remains jailed in lieu of $5.1 million bail.
Anyone with information on the identity of the woman or her whereabouts was asked to call police at 619-531-2293. Anonymous tips can be made by contacting Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or via email at sdcrimestoppers.org.
