SAN DIEGO – Police are searching for a man who reportedly followed, cornered and assaulted a woman while she was walking her dog in City Heights overnight Thursday.

The incident occurred at around midnight in the area of University Avenue and 41st Street. The woman told San Diego police she was near a Jack in the Box restaurant when a man started following her down the street, slurring sexual comments.

He eventually caught up to her and pulled her into an alley. She said that when she called 911, he put his hand in his pocket, suggesting he had a weapon. Then he started assaulting her. Moments later, she escaped and ran towards University Avenue, where she saw an SDPD patrol car. According to her, when the suspect saw the patrol car, he ran away.

The victim was not seriously hurt.

Officers searched the area for the suspect, but could not locate him. He was described as Hispanic, wearing banana print pants.
