SAN DIEGO – A broken water tank created a river that gushed down a hill in Otay Mesa early Thursday morning.

A water tank at Palm Avenue and Beyer Way sprung a leak and sent water spilling onto Palm Avenue sometime before 2:30 a.m.

San Diego police closed down Palm Avenue and waited for crews with California American Water to respond and shut off the water.

There were no signs of flooding. The cause of the leak and the amount of water lost were not confirmed. It was not immediately clear whether any homes or businesses were without water as of 5 a.m.
