SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two vehicles less than five miles apart burst into flames early Monday morning under suspicious circumstances, fire investigators said.

At about 1:30 a.m., fire crews and police responded to reports of a parked BMW on fire in the 700 block of 28th Street in Golden Hill.

Witnesses said they saw a Ford pickup truck driving up and down 28th Street before stopping next to the BMW. Someone got out of the truck and set the car on fire before leaving the scene.

The car fire was knocked down in about 10 minutes.

Fifteen minutes later, and about a mile-and-a-half away, a 911 call brought crews to the 3400 block of Tompkins Street in Mountain View because of a parked SUV on fire.

Several small explosions occurred as firefighters arrived to knock down the vehicle fire. The blaze was put out in about five minutes.

Investigators said both fires are considered suspicious, but it remains unclear if the two fires are linked.
