(KGTV) -- The United States has many free trade partners around the world, and apparently the fictional nation of Wakanda was among them.
According to MarketWatch, New York software engineer Francis Tseng was searching for U.S. tariff information when he happened to see a U.S. tariff list that included the country known as the homeland for Marvel’s character Black Panther.
As recently as Wednesday, Wakanda appeared on a drop-down menu for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service tariff tracker.
A USDA representative told MarketWatch that Wakanda was entered into the system as part of a test and not meant to be visible.
The entry was removed, but the USDA took the attention in stride, tweeting that their “relationship will always be strong” with Wakanda despite no longer being a U.S. free trade partner.
