SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A day after he threatened to shut down the U.S. southern border, President Trump called on Republicans and Democrats to come together on a major border security package, including funding for the president’s proposed border wall.

In a tweet early Friday morning, Trump said: “Republicans and Democrats MUST come together, finally, with a major Border Security package, which will include funding for the Wall. After 40 years of talk, it is finally time for action. Fix the Border, for once and for all, NOW!”

On Thursday, the president said a government shutdown could certainly happen in December over the issue.

He also threatened to close the border completely, saying, “If we find that it gets to a level where we are going to lose control or people are going to start getting hurt, we will close entry into the country for a period of time until we can get it under control. The whole border, I mean the whole border."

As a large caravan of Central American migrants approaches the U.S.-Mexico border in south San Diego to seek asylum, Trump has authorized U.S. military troops at the border to use lethal force if necessary.
