(KGTV) – For the first time ever, details are being released about the Pentagon's secret UFO program, including a possible UFO sighting off the San Diego coast.

The New York Times first reported about the Department of Defense's $22 million "Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program" this weekend, and the Times posted video of a possible close encounter that occurred in 2004.

In the video, a mysterious object is spotted off the coast of San Diego by Navy fighter pilots from the USS Nimitz.

The DOD's secret program was open from 2007 to 2012, the Times reported, and was supported heavily by now-retired Nevada Democratic Sen. Harry Reid.

The former director of the program said until two months ago when he left, the program still existed and sightings were still being documented.
