Customer says bloody fingertip came with salad

PASO ROBLES, Calif. - An Atascadero woman filed a claim saying she found a bloody fingertip in a salad at Applebee's restaurant in Paso Robles.

Cathleen Martin tells The Tribune in San Luis Obispo that she, her husband and child were at Applebee's in December and all ate from her Chinese chicken salad.

While she is worried her family might have been exposed to something, she is primarily concerned because she is pregnant.

Attorney Eric Traut of Santa Ana says the manager confirmed the fingertip belonged to a cook.

Although a letter from Applebee's says the restaurant can't force the cook to undergo tests, a spokesman says the cook has volunteered to undergo screening.

The claim is a precursor to a lawsuit. Martin's claim seeks unspecified damages, medical expenses and lost income.
