2 killed in wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - Two people were killed Friday morning after a wrong-way head-on collision on Interstate 5 in Oceanside.

According to California Highway Patrol officials, just after 2 a.m., a red Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on the southbound I-5 lanes near Mission Avenue when it collided head-on with a black Toyota 4Runner SUV that was on the southbound side.

The crash blocked several lanes, and according to the CHP, the drivers from both vehicles were declared dead at the scene.

At least three other cars struck the vehicles involved, but no one was injured.

A Sig Alert was issued and southbound I-5 lanes at Mission Avenue were closed for several hours due to the emergency response and investigation.

CHP officials said alcohol and/or drugs is suspected to be involved in the collision.
