A 29-year-old man died and a 60-year-old man was injured after a car struck them as they were trying to cross the street near Sharp Mary Birch Hospital in Birdland Friday, according to San Diego police.
It happened in the 3000 block of Health Center Drive at about 8:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.
Police said the two men were walking eastbound across the street to get to their parked car when a 46-year-old man driving a Toyota Corolla driving northbound struck them.
Police said the driver tried to avoid them but was unable to do so.
Both men were taken to the hospital, where the 29-year-old later died. He was identified as Jaime Leonen.
The extent of the 60-year-old man's injuries is unknown at this time.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. San Diego Police Traffic Division is investigating the crash.
