Two officers shot in apartment complex in Rolando Village

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two San Diego police officers were shot in an apartment complex late Saturday night, San Diego Police confirmed. 

Both officers are in serious condition, according to police. 

The suspect in the shooting is dead, but the circumstances are unclear.

Reports came in around 11 p.m. Saturday of shots fired at Tuscany Place Apartments on Rolando Court, near El Cajon Boulevard. 

Police said the original call was for calls of violence and smoke. Firefighters also came to the scene. One became trapped while trying to escape gunfire and was later rescued uninjured by SWAT.

Officers were met with gunfire when they responded to the call.

There is a heavy police presence in the area. The apartment complex was evacuated. Residents were being slowly let back in.
