CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two people were seriously injured after their car crashed into a tree on the side of Interstate 5 in Chula Vista Sunday.
The California Highway patrol says the crash happened on I-5 north near J Street around 9:40 a.m.
According to officers, firefighters had to free the driver and passenger who were trapped in the car following the crash.
It took firefighters 15 minutes to get the pair out of the car. Both were rushed to the hospital with severe medical trauma.
The crash closed three right lanes of I-5 for roughly an hour.
