SAN DIEGO – A trailer was set on fire right outside a Salvation Army store in the Midway District Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported at 4:37 a.m. in the parking lot of the Salvation Army store located in the 3200 block of Sports Arena Boulevard. San Diego Fire-Rescue crews arrived to find a donation trailer ablaze on the side of the store. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to any nearby structures.
A transient man was detained by San Diego police. Police said the person of interest may have started the fire either trying to cook food or stay warm. No information was immediately disclosed regarding any charges he might face. The Metro Arson Strike Team was investigating the cause.
Sports Arena Boulevard was temporarily closed while crews mopped up the fire. There were no reported injuries.
