CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Boy Scouts of America Troop 895 in Chula Vista is heartbroken after someone made off with their camping trailer and all their supplies.

They’re not sure when it happened but the thief had to break through a padlock and tow the trailer out of an Elks Lodge parking lot.

“I could not believe it,” said 14-year-old Dylan Ziemer. “We’ve had that trailer forever.”

“It’s very sad. We put a lot of work into everything,” said Scout Master Ken Velasquez. “It’s heartbreaking.”

Velasquez said the entire trailer with all of the troop’s camping gear is worth more than $10,000. They reported it to Chula Vista Police but they realize they may never see it again.

“We basically need to start from the ground up,” said Ziemer.

However, the scouts can’t replace everything inside the trailer.

“The saddest part is that we’re missing our troop flag,” said Velasquez.

Their troop flag was adorned with ribbons collected over the years that can’t be replaced.

“We’re talking 20 years-worth of stuff on top of this one flag,” he said.

The troop said it will do its best to replace what it can before the next camping trip. A scout’s mother set up a GoFundMe page for anyone looking to help them go camping again.
