A 16-year-old boy who allegedly stole a car and led police on a high-speed chase down I-215 and I-15 early Saturday was in custody following his apprehension in unincorporated Escondido north of the city, the California Highway Patrol said.

San Diego area CHP picked up pursuit of a red Honda Civic being followed by Temecula CHP officers south of Nuevo Road at 12:54 a.m., CHP Media Officer Mary Bailey said.

"The car was southbound and got up to speeds of 120 mph," Bailey said.

"Oceanside CHP picked up the pursuit which ended at 1:07 a.m. on I-15 south of Old Highway 395."

Bailey said the juvenile was arrested on several charges including suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading and possession of drugs, and was taken to juvenile hall.
