SAN DIEGO - A teenage boy was in custody Tuesday on suspicion of fatally stabbing a 16-year-old acquaintance during a weekend dispute in Linda Vista.

The boy, whose name was withheld because he is a minor, was taken into custody Monday in connection with the death of Jose Sotelo of San Diego, according to police.

Officers responding to a report of a person lying on a sidewalk in the 2400 block of East Jewett Street found the victim suffering from stab wounds to his upper body shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday. The youth, who lived in the area, died at the scene before he could be taken to a hospital, Sgt. Brent Williams said.

The motive for the fatal assault was unclear, the sergeant said.

The suspect was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of murder. Williams declined to specify the boy's age and would not elaborate on the relationship between the two teenagers.
