SAN DIEGO (KGTV)--San Diego-based charity "Team Parker 4 Life" is helping families with kids battling cancer and contributing to ongoing research by raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the cause.
The non-profit was started back in 2013 by Crystal Shaw, whose son Parker was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare from of childhood cancer.
He had a tumor on his kidney and was given a 20-percent chance to survive, but after aggressive treatment, he went into remission and has been healthy ever since.
but the experience inspired Shaw to help other families still dealing with the disease.
"We pay people's mortgages every month, we pay their medical bills, we send money for food, for gas, anything the family needs, we try to help them," said Shaw.
Team Parker 4 Life is holding its second annual walk and run Saturday, June 10.
