Team 10: Assaults against San Diego cops are up

SAN DIEGO -- Assaults against San Diego police officers are up, according to a crime analysis from the San Diego Police Department.
 
From January through July of this year there were 254 assaults against officers -- that's more than the total number in 2013 and on pace to be more than the total number in 2014.
 
Team 10 tracked the numbers after an attorney representing the city told a federal judge there has been a spike in officer assaults. We are looking into what is behind the uptick.
 
The San Diego Police Department sent us a report that breaks down the assaults by beat from January 2013 through July 2015. You can take a look at the numbers here. The 10 locations with the most assaults:

  • Hillcrest  - 24
  • Pacific Beach –16
  • Gaslamp – 11
  • Midway – 11
  • Mira Mesa  - 10
  • Marina – 9 
  • Core Columbia – 9
  • North Park – 8
  • Grantville – 6
