SAN DIEGO -- Police responding to a possible burglary in progress were led on a pursuit that resulted in a suspect’s arrest in El Cerrito Tuesday night.

At around 9:45 p.m., San Diego police responding to a report of a burglary on Colloid Boulevard in Talmadge spotted the suspect’s vehicle, a Honda Civic, and attempted to pull it over.

The vehicle refused to stop and a high-speed chase ensued. However, the Honda broke down in the 5400 block of University Avenue and sputtered to a stop. With dozens of people looking on, police surrounded the car. The suspect put his hands up but refused to exit the car. He eventually surrendered within about 15 minutes.

Officers had to push the stalled car out of the roadway to be able to reopen University Avenue to traffic.

Police said investigators are still unsure exactly what the suspect was doing in Talmadge. His name and the charges he might face were not immediately confirmed.
