SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Susan G. Komen San Diego and the San Diego Padres will offer free mammograms at Petco Park on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
To qualify for a mammogram, women must be uninsured, under-insured or have a low income.
Women over 40 years old must have had their last mammogram at least one full year ago. Women under 40 who are experiencing symptoms are also eligible.
Every day, six women in San Diego are diagnosed with breast cancer, according to Komen San Diego. One woman in the county dies from the disease daily, the organization said.
Friday’s event marks the second year Komen San Diego has partnered with the Padres to offer the free X-rays.
At last year's event, 71 women were screened. Fourteen women had abnormal findings and were referred for further diagnostic testing and follow-up care.
According to the CDC, mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat and before symptoms become noticeable.
