SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A busy on-ramp to SR-163 in Mission Valley will close permanently, starting Wednesday.
The right turn on-ramp from westbound Friars Road to southbound SR-163 will shut down as part of the $40 million 163 Friars Road Interchange Project. The work is designed to widen the freeway overpass east of Fashion Valley mall.
Starting Wednesday at 7 p.m., drivers will continue straight on Friars Road then turn right (north) on Ulric Street to the Ulric Street southbound SR-163 on-ramp.
Caltrans crews need to close the on-ramp to add another right turn lane from westbound Friars Road to Ulric Street. Crews will also build a dedicated right turn lane from Ulric Street to the ramp, and another lane with the option to turn right or continue straight.
Residents in the area may hear jackhammering and truck back-up alarms during the work.
