SAN DIEGO – A motorcycle rear-ended into an innocent driver during a high-speed chase on Interstate 805 in North Park early Tuesday morning.
The incident began at 2 a.m. when California Highway Patrol officers tried to pull over a speeding motorcycle on Interstate 5 in the Encinitas area. The officers lost that motorcycle, but later caught up with a second motorcycle on I-5 south in Del Mar that had been cruising with the first at speeds of over 100 miles per hour.
The chase with the second motorcycle wound its way down I-5 then onto I-805. At I-805 near University Avenue in North Park, the motorcycle rear-ended a car and spun out.
The woman driving the car was not hurt. The motorcyclist was arrested and taken to a local hospital to be checked out. His injuries did not appear serious.
A portion of I-805 south had to be shut down while emergency responders cleared the scene.
