SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A fire in the bottom of a canyon in Serra Mesa this afternoon was stopped before it could threaten the homes along the rim.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a tree fire in the canyon behind the 2900 block of Kobe Drive near the intersection of Geraldine Avenue at about 3:15 p.m., according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Lee Swanson.
The first firefighters on scene immediately called for a first alarm response, then a strike team for the other side of the canyon on Mobley Street about 15 minutes later.
Firefighting helicopters made five water drops and about 80 firefighters were able to keep the fire at one acre, and extinguished it in about 30 minutes, Swanson said.
No one was injured and no buildings were damaged.
