RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Ramona Monday night.
According to California Highway Patrol officials, the fatal collision occurred at around 8:40 p.m. on Highland Valley Road, near Handlebar Road.
CHP officials said a woman was walking in the traffic lanes of Highland Valley Road when she was struck by a 2000 Lincoln Navigator SUV driven by 25-year-old Ramona resident Daniel Juarez.
The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Juarez, according to CHP officials, drove away after the collision.
Shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday, Juarez's SUV was found abandoned in the parking lot of an Albertsons store on Main Street in Ramona. Juarez was found a short time later and taken into custody.
Juarez was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter and a probation violation.
CHP officials said alcohol/drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
