SAN DIEGO -- Winston Shepard scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and San Diego State beat Wyoming 67-55 Wednesday night in a Mountain West Conference opener.
Jeremy Hemsley scored 16 points, Trey Kell scored a season-high 14, and Skylar Spencer had 12 boards for the Aztecs (8-6), who outrebounded the Cowboys 50-26, scoring 14 second-chance points off of 21 offensive rebounds.
Jason McManamen's 3-pointer pulled the Cowboys within 44-40 midway through the second half. Hemsley's back-to-back 3-pointers helped the Aztecs pull away 50-40 with 9:14 to play, and Wyoming got no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Josh Adams' jumper gave Wyoming an early lead, but it was all San Diego State after that. The Aztecs scored 10 unanswered points, then pulled away on a 15-2 run and led 35-25 at halftime.
Adams scored 16 for Wyoming (7-7), Hayden Dalton added 13, and McManamen 11.
