CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Carlsbad based startup has developed a new app designed to help you achieve better sleep.
SleepScore Labs say the free app turns your smart phone into a precise sleep monitor. It works by enabling the phone to produce inaudible, high frequency sound waves, that bounce off your body and back to your phone's microphone; detecting the most minute, tell-tale movements related to sleep cycles: from light, to deep, to rem sleep.
"During that period of the night," says SleepScore CEO Colin Lawlor, "We typically remain pretty still and our breathing really begins to slow down to its most even pace for the night."
Lawlor says sleep data has never been collected in this way and can help you learn how your sleeping and how to improve it.
"Measuring sleep at home -reliably and accurately is really difficult to do, says Lawlor, and that's what we've solved."
Lawlor says personal information is kept that way, but user aggregate data is used to help determine what sleep products work best.
