San Diego surfboard visionary dies

Surfboard visionary Larry Gordon passed away on New Year’s Day.

Gordon revolutionized the surfing industry when he and his friend Floyd Smith created foam surfboards.

The two men started their company Gordon & Smith Surfboards in the late 1950s.

Surfers preferred their lighter boards over the balsa surfboards that were popular at the time. Eventually their surfboards took over the market.

G&S Surfboards and Skateboards has been making surfboards in San Diego for over 52 years.
