San Diego police: Woman hit by car on El Cajon Boulevard in El Cerrito area

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 67-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after being struck by a car in an El Cerrito-area street Monday morning.

The collision happened shortly after 6 a.m. in the 5700 block of El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police said.

Witnesses told 10News the victim was engaged in a verbal altercation with another person when she backed up into middle of the street. The woman was then struck by an oncoming Honda Civic.

The 47-year-old driver that struck the woman remained at the scene as emergency responders took the woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

10News learned the victim had several hamsters and guinea pigs with her, but they were on the sidewalk when she was hit by the car. Animal Control officers took possession of the animals.

Due to the crash, police shut down El Cajon Boulevard between 58th and 56th streets.

The incident is under investigation.
