SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fans of the popular Portland ice cream spot, Salt & Straw, rejoice! The unique scoop shop is opening a second San Diego location next year.

The company said a second local shop will open at Carmel Valley's One Paseo mixed-use development in 2019. The ice cream shop, known for its creative flavors with local ingredients, opened its first local spot in Little Italy in December 2017.

"At Salt & Straw, we find so much inspiration from our communities, so we’re thrilled to be opening at One Paseo, a vibrant new destination and gathering place for Carmel Valley residents that offers a distinct mix of culinary experiences," Kim Malek, co-founder and CEO of Salt & Straw, said. "It really captures the spirit behind Salt & Straw to bring people together."

Salt & Straw said the Carmel Valley shop will be designed to "recall a modern-day mercantile, providing a welcoming setting to gather for hand-crafted scoops."

Found in 2011 by Kim and Tyler Malek in Portland, Ore., the shop has attracted a following thanks to its small-batch, handmade ice cream using locally-sourced ingredients. The shop also rotates out special flavors monthly in addition to its core offerings.

In San Diego, they've collaborated with local favorites like Belching Beaver Brewery and James Coffee Co. to create "Peanut Butter Stout with Chocolate Chicharrón" and "James Coffee and Bourbon."
