A plane crashed near Interstate 805 South and Balboa Avenue in the Clairemont area at approximately 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to the FAA, the plane was a single-engine Beech BE36 Bonanza. It crashed through a Kyle Thomas' fence and into the back of his next door neighbor's home on Chandler Drive, which is not far from the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

Thomas, who is a photographer for Encinitas Magazine, grabbed his camera and captured the heartbreaking chaos and carnage.

Shortly after the plane took off from the airport, the pilot reported "catastrophic engine failure." The pilot told the airport that they would attempt to make it back to Montgomery. Witnesses told 10News they believe the pilot was trying to land in a school field.

Two people are reportedly dead and two people were transported to a local hospital. It is not known how badly the other passengers were injured. No people were inside the home at the time of the crash, but a pet was killed.

10 News talked to a resident on Sunday night who described the screams of terror he heard after the crash.

The FAA and NTSB will investigate the crash.

This is not the first fatal crash associated with Montgomery airport.

An 80-year-old woman was killed in 2014 after a bounced landing resulted into a plane crashing into a Target store’s parking lot. The 52-year-old pilot was pulled from the crash by a civilian.
