(KGTV) The body of a fallen Cal Fire San Diego engineer returned to San Diego in a procession that began in Ventura County Sunday morning.
The procession made its way into San Diego County on I-15 around 1 p.m. 32-year-old Cory Iverson died while fighting the Thomas Fire.

The medical examiner confirmed Saturday that Iverson died of thermal injuries and smoke inhalation. Cal Fire is investigating what led to his death.
"Today has been a tragic and devastating day," Cal Fire San Diego County Fire Chief Tony Mecham said in a press conference late Thursday. "This incident has shaken our organization to the core."

Iverson leaves behind a wife, two-year-old daughter, mother, father, stepfather, sister, and brother. His wife is also expecting a second daughter this spring.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Iverson's family. As of Sunday morning, the account had raised more than $300,000 of its $500,000 goal.
Several Facebook lives showed the procession as it began and entered San Diego County.
