SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are searching for the man who stole a man's car, crashed into parked cars, and ditched it a short distance away.

San Diego Police said a man driving a purple Mercedes in the Linda Vista area had stopped at a traffic signal shortly after 2:30 a.m. when the suspect approached his vehicle.

The suspect wielded a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded the man get out of the car, police said. The driver complied and the suspect drove away.

Shortly after, the vehicle was involved in a collision with multiple parked cars. An Uber driver spotted the car and started to follow the suspect, but eventually lost sight of the vehicle.

Officers found the damaged car a short distance away without the suspect.

The suspect was described as a white or light-skinned Hispanic male in his twenties, standing about 6-feet tall and wearing a black hoodie.
