Police: Man arrested after attempted sexual assault at Old Town Hilton

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have arrested the man they say tried to sexually assault a woman at gunpoint inside a restroom at the Hilton in Old Town Tuesday.

According to police, Jason Lee Jones, 31, was arrested and booked into jail for one count of assault with intent to commit a sexual offense.

Jones was also arrested for an active parole warrant. According to police, the attempted sexual assault happened around 12:26 p.m. Monday at the Hilton on the 4200 block of Taylor Street.

Police say Jones went into the women’s restroom and attempted to sexually assault the victim with the use of a weapon.

The woman was able to run out of the restroom and call police. After fleeing the scene, the suspect was later spotted around 6 p.m. Tuesday at Old Town State Park.

Hilton Garden Inn said in a statement to 10News the incident has left them shaken:

"The safety and well-being of our guests and employees is always our primary concern. We are obviously shaken up by what occurred on our property today and have been working with local law enforcement as they investigate. We are grateful to hear that the police have a suspect in custody and will continue to work closely with them on next steps. Right now, we are focused on taking care if those individuals affected by yesterday’s events."

Officers took Jones into custody without incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the sex crimes unit at 619-531-2210.
