There was a mix of badges and coffee cups at the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce Wednesday.
Oceanside Police are using coffee to connect with the community.
"They like coffee," Lt. Leonard Cosby said. "It's disarming. You talk."
Talk Cosby hopes will brew better relationships in their community, and give officers insight into problems that plague the people who live there.
"I think this is really important that the police interact with community because they can't see everything, they can't hear everything, they can't do everything," local business owner John Fontanini said.
Now, police hope Coffee with a Cop helps build trust one cup at a time.
"There's no problem that's too little for us to try to deal with," Cosby said.
Cosby also says they are planning the next Coffee with a Cop in October.
