SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- The DMV is apologizing for long wait times as they work through a new queuing system and problems with the REAL ID.
Wait times (without an appointment) used to be under two hours, now they're closer to 4-5 hours. The DMV issued this statement to 10News:
The issue is employees have to manually enter the ID number given to each customer, since a new system went online two weeks ago. The ID number consists of your initials and the last four digits of your phone number.
The process prior was completely automatic.
The other issue relates to the REAL ID. Employees are taking more time to explain to customers what they need to have in order to get the ID. Customers also have to enter their information in an online application form inside the DMV, and that process can be slow and glitchy.
To save on time, go online and book an appointment, or call 1-800-777-0133.
