SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A new 'staff' member is making history at Palomar College, a robot named Pepper.
Campus officials say it's the first artificial intelligence robot in the nation to be integrated into a college environment.
As of now, Pepper can answer 1,200 campus-related questions. She can also detect human emotions like a frown or smile, through 3D cameras and lasers in her eyes.
Campus officials hope Pepper will increase student engagement and help further innovation.
They purchased the robot through a grant. It normally costs $50,000 but they were able to get it for $25,000.
