SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A student-led effort from the Barrio Logan College Institute is paying off. The final design for a new mural that’s been in the works for almost a year was recently approved by the Chicano Park Steering Committee. Students came up with the idea last fall.
The students teamed up with the Environmental Health Coalition and local artist Alicia Maria Siu Bernal. Bernal designed the mural with input from the community, hosting workshops where the people shared what they'd like to see on the wall. The theme of the mural is to honor the history of the region, mixed with a vision of the future, and to educate the community about protecting the environment.
The mural’s design will be unveiled to the public in December. The artwork will be complete next Spring. The community will also get an opportunity to help paint the mural.
